The Independent Publishing Magazine (TIPM) was launched in late 2007 by Mick Rooney.  We cover many aspects of independent publishing, including: self-publishing, hybrid publishing, traditional publishing, book marketing, technology and news. We also strive to highlight the individuals and companies that are innovators in the space. You will also read profiles of indie authors who are creatively marketing books and getting noticed.

Our readership is both authors and industry professionals. Our contributors are mostly publishing industry professionals, whose companies have strong reputations for being author-centric. Some of our contributors are from other industries relevant to publishing (e.g. graphic design).

TIPM provides an objective view on global publishing from the perspective of authors who want to publish their books outside mainstream channels. Over the past 25 years, the stigma and limitations of self-publishing have eroded, evening the playing field, so that savvy independent authors and publishers have opportunities to attract readers. Readers’ access to good books is no longer controlled by a few gatekeepers.

TIPM was purchased by Mark Levine in late 2023. The new era of TIPM will continue to cover the individuals and companies in the independent publishing space doing interesting work and creating opportunities for authors to succeed.
